Harold Cash

Harold Cash grew up in La Marque, one of eight children of Cora Lee Cash and George Cash Sr. Summers on his grandfather's farm in Kendleton, Texas, and later at his uncle Milton Coleman Sr.'s ranch in Dickinson, put him on horseback. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967, earned a degree in industrial technology from Prairie View A&M University, and worked 27 years at Amoco Oil while still competing.

He is an All-American Rodeo Association champion bareback rider (1979 and 1981). He has been inducted into five cowboy halls of fame and has earned 12 buckles. After leaving the chutes in 1996 he turned to promoting youth rodeo and telling the history of Black cowboys on the Gulf Coast - including the mentors who held the whistle fair when others would not.

In his own words, the first Hall of Fame class was chosen to honor "cowboys who had mentored myself and many others in the rodeo ring."
